Parent Academy Awards Ceremony

To celebrate the successful conclusion of the Parent Academy and honour the contributions of participating schools and families, the C-for-Chinese@JC project held this year's Parent Academy Awards Ceremony on 21 June 2025 and welcomed over 300 guests, including school representatives, project partners, and parents from 60 project schools.

The event featured heartfelt sharing by school representatives and parents on how the programme has supported non-Chinese speaking (NCS) students and their families. School social workers also reflected on their experiences in applying Culturally Responsive Service (CRS) in daily practice. Two vibrant student performances added to the festive atmosphere, highlighting the positive impact of the programme in promoting Chinese learning and cultural inclusion.

Presentation of Appreciation Certificates to Project Schools

Thanks to the support of 49 kindergartens and 11 primary schools, the C‑for‑Chinese@JC Project engaged a total of 947 NCS students and parents in 2024–2025. The ceremony also served as a heartfelt occasion to thank all participating schools for their dedication throughout the year.

Award Presentation of Parent Academy

In the 2024–2025 year, the Parent Academy benefited a total of 307 parents and their families from both kindergarten and primary levels. Among them, 157 parents were awarded the Basic Level certificate, 52 received Advanced Level 1 certificate, and 98 received the Advanced Level 2 certificate. These achievements recognise their efforts and commitment in supporting their children's learning journey.

Sharing from Parent Academy’s Teachers, Social Workers and Parents

The Parent Academy continues to strengthen home-school collaboration in support of NCS families. During the event, teachers, social workers, and parent representatives from participating schools shared their personal growth throughout the programme, including mindset shifts and evolving roles in supporting their children. They also expressed appreciation for the Project, affirming the positive impact of CRS on both individuals and schools.

Parent Ms. Dadang Michebelle Gagno shares how learning Chinese has become an essential part of her everyday life, helping her communicate more confidently and better support her child’s learning journey

Social Worker Ms. Selma Mo shares that by implementing CRS at school, she was able to apply the concepts and strategies learned from the training to her daily work. This has helped build stronger connections with NCS families, fostered a more inclusive learning environment, and contributed to both her professional and personal growth

Culturally Distinctive Performances

Two impressive performances by Parent Academy students added a vibrant cultural dimension to the ceremony. Through Wushu and Cantonese Opera, the students demonstrated the outcomes of diverse learning experiences and the spirit of cross-cultural appreciation, encouraging inclusion and appreciation of diversity.

Trained by Hong Kong Wushu athlete Ms. Yuen Ka Ying, NCS students delivered a powerful and spirited demonstration of various Wushu techniques. Their performance reflected the confidence and dedication they had cultivated through their training, leaving a strong impression on the audience

Students from Islamic Dharwood Pau Memorial Primary School performed an excerpt ‘Riding a Dragon to the Remote Antiquity’ from the Cantonese opera ‘Dreams of Myths’, impressing the audience with their elaborate costumes, expressive delivery, and deep appreciation for traditional Chinese performing arts
