Cultural Crossroad Fun Festivals
Cultural Crossroad Fun Festivals
On 24 January 2026, the C-for-Chinese@JC project hosted “Cultural Crossroad Fun Festivals”, themed around Family Engagement and Inclusion, to foster communication and mutual understanding among families from diverse cultural backgrounds.
On the day, families of different ethnicities came together to enjoy a vibrant mix of hands-on experiences: from watching a shadow play theatre, taking on the “Festival Showdown” challenge, to joining the cricket parent–child fun session, giving both children and parents plenty of chances to connect, learn and play side by side. Through this joyful series of activities, participants not only experienced the richness of multiculturalism, but also strengthened parent–child bonds and communications between families with different cultural backgrounds, all within a warm, welcoming atmosphere that encouraged inclusion and understanding.

Led by the host and teachers, participants kicked off with a light warm-up activity, getting to know one another in a relaxed and cheerful atmosphere to start the festival on a welcoming note.

The Shadow Play Theatre session was buzzing with energy. The instructor first introduced the characteristics of shadow play traditions from different countries, helping participants understand the cultural background of the performing arts. While watching the instructor’s demonstration, participants tried manipulating the shadow puppets themselves and worked with their families to create storylines on the spot. Through character-based interaction with other families, they brought their imagination, teamwork and parent–child rapport to life.

In the lively Cricket Parent–Child Fun session, parents and children warmed up and practised basic skills together under the demonstration and guidance of professional coaches, before forming teams for friendly matches. With plenty of passing, coordination and encouragement, everyone enjoyed the sport and experienced the fun of teamwork amidst laughter.

The Festival Showdown was fast-paced and full of excitement. Parents and children first formed teams and took on a series of mutli-cultural festival-themed games. Along the way, they exchanged ideas and worked closely with families from different cultural backgrounds. Through discussion and collaboration, each group built rapport and gave their best in a friendly, sportsmanlike competition for the top spot.
Thank you to all families for your enthusiastic participation, making the carnival a meaningful platform for connection, exchange and mutual understanding. We hope this spirit of inclusion and friendship will continue beyond the event, as we support and learn from one another in our everyday community life.
